Wow, it sounds like you are all doing great back at home! Like there, Christmas is in full swing and all the stores are full of that stuff. The last 3 days have been FREEZING, so it's actually felt like winter during the Christmas season haha
When is the groundbraking for the Phoenix Temple going to happen, it's been a long time, no? I'm glad to hear the Gilbert temples finally starting! There is going to be a boom in missionary work in Arizona! Get workin :)
Bah! Alyssa and Jonathan got married, that's weird but great! I'm glad they are happy, send me some pictures!!!! Are they going to stay in Tucson, or are they headed out?
Mary was going to get baptised today, but there's a worldwide stake leadership training thing at the same time as her baptism today!!! So...we are having lunch at her house today and next Saturday she will get baptised with Rosana.
This week we had an incredible finding experience! We felt super strong we should go down a street and God led us to a door I had never knocked before (I thought I'd knocked every door in this area 20 times haha) A woman looked out the window, smiled big, and opened the door and told us to enter and sit down. She left the room and we just looked at eachother confused for a little bit, wondering if she was a less-active member or what. She came back with chairs and we sat down and learned a bit about her. It turned out she lived up in the city of Rivera for most of her life and the missionaries found her many years ago. She was an investigators for many many years, and had always had great desires to follow Christ. She brought the gospel to her entire family: parents, brothers, sisters, EVERYONE was baptised up in Brasil, except her. Before they had access to the Portugues Book of Mormon, she had even translated the entire book from Spanish to Portugues for her family. She knows it well and had always had a testimony of it. She went to the temple open house and everything! Her husband never wanted to get married to her because he never thought it was necessary. Well... 2 years ago her husband passed away, and little by little her world has broken down since. 3 weeks ago her son was found selling drugs in her house and she sent him to Colonia to live with her brother. As her world came crashing down on her the other day, she began to pray for guidance from God in what she should do, and at that very moment the Lord led us to her door and she recognized us as representatives of him. We invited her to be baptised next week right then and there and she accepted with a LOT of excitement. When we work really hard, the Lord blesses us with tender mercies.
Carlos is not going to be able to be baptised next week now, as he's been put on bed-rest for diabetes. After working hard in a career for 61 years (he's 77 now) he feels so helpless and useless not being able to do anything. I told him a lot about Grandpa because he reminds me a lot of him. Grandma, could you send him a little letter? I think it could help, I'll translate it and everything :)
I have a special request for Christmas. One of my best friends is Elder Cardenas from Peru. He was baptised just a year before the mission, and noone else in his family is members or anything, he's never gotten a letter, email, much less a package or anything and I love the guy a ton and it would be cool if you could send him a good package too! One thing in particular I want in it is one of those Tech-Deck mini skateboards things, on P-Days in my 4th change when we lived together, we made a Tech-Deck skate park hahahaha it would be really funny.
Okay, that's all I got, I love you all and pray for you always, do everything in your power to nourish the Lord's vineyard in whichever stewardships you have, and then go the extra mile. And after that warm-up, make miracles happen. Make people see the Lord's light within you and recognize you as a representative of Him. And then let them know what, why, and how.
Con amor,
Elder Magnuson
Hey super important thing I forgot! Have all of our family, friends, ward, etc.. send to the gmail as soon as possible their testimony and a family picture! We are flooding Uruguay with thousands of Books of Mormons with testimonies in them for Christmas, so please let everyone I know to do it this week and send it to the gmail asap. Thanks!

November 6, 2010
Hey everyone, it was a great week as always!
Right now we just bought a bunch of wood and started a fire, and have a ton of chorizo out in the back grilling Uruguayan style :) I'm stoked!
This week was a lot of fun! We organized members to accompany us every day and we saw a lot of success in finding new people and befriending the investigators that we already have. Theres this old lady we found that is HILARIOUS. She reminds me of the old Sister Peterson me and dad used to home teach. She's having trouble getting over the fact that she doesn't need to talk to God through Saints, but she's getting over it. We taught a lesson on receiving revelation through prayer last night. She's getting baptised at the beginning of December.
Mary is as strong as ever. After having testified before thousands of evangelicals of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, the missionaries up there in that city are harvesting a TON of references. She was invited to speak in a few other conferences around the country, and next time she'll be a baptised member haha.
Last Saturday I talked to a lady about the church at the supermarket on the way out of buying groceries named Rosana, who is a Jew, but after the first lesson she went to church last week, went to the baptismal service and saw a baptism, and now is getting baptised on the 20th. Shes done with 1 Nephi with tons of notes in the margins everywhere and practically has everything memorized and referenced. Shes a college professor of Law. Unfortunately, it turned out she doesn't live in our area, but the other office elders are teaching her and shes progressing like crazy. Another tender mercy of the Lord.
Our couples with marriage plans are still not getting it done, it's a little frustrating at times, but we have a lesson with Gustavo and Daniela today in front of the baptismal font with a 20 yr old convert getting ready to leave on the mission. It should turn out pretty good. Marriage is the hardest thing here. It's hard to get married and nearly impossible to get divorced, and even harder if you have kids, so nobody bothers with it at all. BAH!
Carlos and his wife are progressing well too. They read together all the time, and when he gets up at night he just reads and reads.
We visited again with a man we found last week named Miguel Tabich and he surprised us with a ton of history he had read up on of the church in an old volume of church history somehow he had gotten in the past that was in his HUGE house library (we keep finding super smart, rich people to teach!). He was telling (or rather teaching us haha) stories that I had never even heard of from the Mormon Batallion, etc... random really cool little histories. He reads constantly and is now on his 2nd venture through the Book of Mormon already. Him, his wife, and his son will be baptised in about 5 weeks just before Christmas.
Well, those are our most promising investigators right now. We only work a few hours a day proselyting, but we are seeing a lot of miracles every day. Next Saturday is Mary's baptism and she asked me to baptise her. If women could be apostles, she'd be the next one haha, and she brought another man in her nightly English class to the gospel in another ward here in Montevideo called Pocitos (sister missionarys are there) and this man, Martin, is going to be baptised with her. They both lost their spouses 4 years ago, are super smart, and have strong testimonies, and talk about eachother all the time so hopefully we'll see some eternal marriage here in the next year haha
A good friend of mine went home with his parents yesterday, so when Cory Wadsworth invites me to facebook please accept and give him a few of my lady friends to look up haha He said he loved being able to go around and see everyone with his parents before going home, so I guess plan on that. It will be great!
Elder Crandell is still a stud and we're having fun and working super hard. I love this work, and I hear your prayers. It's amazing that you can knock every door 20 times, and still there's someone waiting for you the 21st time. The ward is strong, and working together finally, I just really hope things keep clicking forever like they are now.
I love you all so much! I am having the time of my life finding happiness in good things. The church is true, Christ lives.

Hey family, sorry my emails have been getting shorter and shorter. It's just that in the offices time goes by so quickly and there is so much that happens, that I can't even remember it all, and the whole time I'm typing I'm getting phone calls with peoples problems haha
Lets see...
This week a couple good friends finished the mission and their parents are here now touring Uruguay with them. It's pretty weird seeing people go home now since I've been in the mission long enough to know lots of people pretty well. It's happy though to see a good missionary who worked hard the whole mission leave.
Also, Elder Lopez from Argentina spent the week in a trio with us because he is going home early for back and spinal cord issues. Poor guy was pretty sad to leave just a couple months early but at least he gets to go to the Cordoba temple dedication today.
Meanwhile, the week was made even crazier with Pres. and Hermana gone at a conference with Elder Anderson of the 12 in Buenos Aires. It was fun cause I got to make some executive decisions hahaha
As for missionary work, we have a baptismal service on the 13th and a number of investigators will be baptised then, and the following week on the 20th a few more will be getting baptised as well.
I receive 5-6 letters each week from converts in Salto and this week I got a ton of good news. I guess the ward had a temple trip I didn't know about and a bunch of them came and did baptisms for the dead! I wish I could've gone, but I'm so glad they are all doing well. Javier and Henry, the 18 yr-olds I baptised the day before I left, both received the Melchizedek Priesthood this last Sunday! Daniela's whole family joined the church, and the Perez Chivel's and Weisbach Chivels (2 full families, mothers are sisters) brought their other brother and sister and their families to church. I hear that ward is seeing upwards of 160 people each Sunday! I remember when we were pulling hair to get 60-70 haha so it's wonderful to hear good things from the past too.
This ward is struggling a bit still, but people have started doing things of their own will! All of our converts here now have active home teachers and such and are being visited! We are working really hard to see that things happen and little by little they are. I just wish I could carry our Mission Leader around with me for the rest of the mission.
Could you guys look up online and see if you can buy alfajors and have them shipped in the internet, or are there places to buy them there? I broke 150 different types (the wrapper collection) this last week, and don't know what I'm going to do if I can't get alfajors any more one day hahaha
Okay, well, I'm sorry I am such a bad letter writer, but I'm out of both time and things to say haha. I love you all, keep working hard and staying happy! The best solution to EVERY problem is to share the gospel! How about YOU guys go over to the family of the kid that beat up Colton, share some of his candy and have an FHE with them. If they are going through a tough time, what better solution! Be good Samaritans :)
Love you all!
P.S. What is Andrews address? PLEASE dont forget! :) Send it to gmail right away if you can!

Hey family!
This week was changes, it was CRAZY!
We went to the airport and waited....and waited....and waited....and church offices had changed the day to a day later and they didn't come. Needless to say it was insane taking care of all the new missionaries and the missionaries going home at the same time. Very crazy and sleepless, but it was a successful change. Everyone got to their areas on time and noone missed a bus, so when I leave the offices next change, I will leave with a clean record haha
Funny thing that happened this week, a few months ago I decided it would be smart to have a Braille Book of Mormon just in case someone taught a blind guy. Well this week it came and hahahaha it's in 7 massive volumes, and weighs like 40 lbs hahahahaa it was super funny.
Elder Ashby is training now, so when he came to the mission home, I asked Mary to go to the temple to surprise him. He was pretty excited that she was there and she told him she's getting baptised and all.
Cristal finally picked up the Book of Mormon and is reading and FINALLY is progressing, so hopefully Nicolas and Cristal will get married and baptised soon together. I think going to their friend Sheila's baptism on the 30th will help them a ton. We might push it back another week though because this Sunday is Stake Conference and we wouldn't be able to announce her baptism good. We'll see :)
Gustavo and Daniela are doing as good as ever, but it's still been so tough getting them married. Theres always something that keeps them from pulling out a marriage date!
We continue to find new people to teach and see miracles!
Elder Crandell is a great comp. Elder Bradshaw got called to the offices and he is Elder Grau's other kid. E' Grau is now back in Montevideo as a Zone Leader AGAIN.
Sorry this one is short, but we got to go pick some missionaries up at Presidents now.
I love you all and excited for everything happening back there!
Congrats on your fitness test dad! When I get back we'll go running haha

What a miracle-full week!
The biggest miracle was Mary. After teaching her for 4 months, being a person learning about the gospel since she was 11 years old when the missionaries first found her family (shes the 40 yr old rich lady), she is getting baptised on November 13th! We had a long lesson about the spirit and at the beginning she had her same attitude "No me vas a mojar!" and in the end, she knew that it was her time. It's amazing how the Lord can work through you to say the things he wants his children to know and feel. The problem is she is a little claustrophobic and afraid of the water, so she refuses to be baptised in the font. She has decided she must be baptised in the river hahaha so we're going to go to the temple to have the opening ceremony, and then all walk down to the river together for the baptism (or maybe drive down, we'll see). It will be soooo coooold but wonderful :) It'll make a fantastic memory.
Gustavo and Daniela, after fasting a ton and praying for a month, their bosses have let them leave work for a day to pull out a marriage date on the 20th, so they'll probably get married towards the end of November or beginning of December. I pray that I'm still here to see them married and then they'll be baptised the same day. A sister in the ward is making her wedding dress.
Sheila is following all the commandments and will be baptised on the 30th of October. She is progressing so well simply because she loves to read and knows it's true. That's when its easiest to get answers is when you are willing to accept God's will and listen to Him.
Nicolas is ready for baptism, but Cristal his girlfriend is still pretty iffy about marriage. In the lessons we're really concentrating on her and teaching things really simply because she doesnt feel like she understands things well. They are passing through some pretty tough trials right now, but they'll make it!
There are always lots of trials, but after we put forth our faith and carry on, we are always blessed. God has His mysteries and it's rare that we understand His ways, but I know that if we accept them and adapt to whatever circumstances come, and if we do it with patience and humility, and perhaps a bit of time on our knees, we'll be able to use our experiences for growth.
I'm glad to hear that there are so many good things happening at home. I wish I could have seen you on your first coaster, Jason haha Give Chloe the new pug a hug for me haha and Boots too. As for a job, dad, if you go back into education on any level, you're going to be getting pushed around with political battles pretty soon. Keep that in mind as you look for another career. I love you all a ton and pray that all is going well :) Keep working hard in all you do and making miracles happen around you!
This week is changes, Elder Stevens is going up to head financier, we'll see who his new comp is... :) I have one more change in the offices, so next changes will be pretty exciting ones!

This last week was fantastic! Elder Cook and Elder Eyring gave my favorite talks probably, although its a bit tough cause a bunch of them were PERFECT for our investigators that went. We had a number of people there, and Mary even went to ALL of them!!! Heck, I didn't even do that til the mission... haha
Today being fast Sunday, we're fasting for all the people that are trying to get married, but theres always something like work or an emergency that keeps them from doing such a simple thing as going to pull out a marriage date. We taught the law of the fast to everyone this last week, and with the three couples preparing for marriage and baptism, we are all fasting together so that we can work everything out all right and soon.
I'm a little sleepy right now, I spent the night in the hospital 2 nights ago because a zone leader (Elder Lopez from Argentina) has a spinal cord injury and can't feel his hands and has a ton of neck and head pain. Today I'm spending the day with him again, so it should be pretty fun :) Poor guy got a pretty lousy room too, with the oxygen machines for the urgent care, and construction right outside it's been hard to sleep. He got to watch Harry Potter 6 and the Simpsons on a huge plasma TV though, so it made up for it hahahaha weird.
Yesterday was President's BDay so we're surprising him by taking him to this SUPER nice grill place owned by a member! It's usually like $25 a plate but he's doing it for free!! Good family! heh
Elder Crandell and I are working super hard, having tons of fun, and seeing lots of success! Constantly finding new people preparing for baptism. This area is so full of people ready to hear the gospel, I wish I could stay here forever!
I'm finally going to get caught up with all the letters I'm debted to everyone for today since I'll be chilling in the hospital alone all day, so you all that wrote me can expect a response finally haha Sorry I've been so terrible about it.
I love you all so much and am grateful for your prayers! Please keep working hard at all you do and be happy and grateful for all that you have! Even roller coasters! I expect some pics pretty soon in the mail of your trip! Good luck Jase, don't pee yourself on Apollos Chariot! hahaha Have fun watching the kids, mom!
Happy Birthday to Michelle and Anabell this last week!! Happy Birthday to Levi this coming week!!!

Hey family!
You forgot me this week, so please send an email to the gmail haha
This week was fantastic! We are taking 3 couples to get a marriage date this week!!! We have super strong investigators and everyone is progressing spiritually, its just sometimes hard for people to get married and such. Some commandments are hard to follow simply because of the temporal laws that exist, but when theres a will theres a way! I sure hope we can get them all married and baptised before I'm gone, I know it's a pride thing, but I really do like seeing people progress from start to finish. It's hard for me to leave people halfway and wonder what happened, but that's the mission I guess!
TODAY IS GENERAL CONFERENCE!!
Our sessions are at 1 and at 5. At 11 we are going to Nicolas, Cristal, and Sheyla's house (Nicolas and Cristal are getting married and then baptised, Sheyla is their friend that lives their with them and will be baptised the 23rd) for a big lunch together and then walking to the conference all together. Tomorrow we are going with Gustavo and Daniela! We have been handing out invites in all our contacts, so I really hope a lot of people come to hear and see the prophet! I put myself in the shoes of someone who has never heard of a prophet before and I imagine the General Conference would be even more incredible!
Elder Crandell is a great missionary and we are seeing a ton of success in the ward. Lots of new investigators every week and the Lord is blessing all of them with the means of completing with all of the commandments.
VAMO' ARRIBA!
Thanks for the letters I've gotten and sorry I'm slow to reply. I usually am up before 6:30 and often out after 10:30 doing whatever needs to be done and have very little time even on Pdays to write anything. I'll try really hard to write a few letters today!
Love you all so much! Keep working hard and being happy!!!!
Elder Magnusson
(We did not forget him... if we write too late on Friday's, he doesn't get our emails in time... he writes very early on Saturdays)
You forgot me this week, so please send an email to the gmail haha
